In Memory of Lucy
A poem for my beloved dog Lucy

A Good Girl in Brown
From Harnett Animal Control, a little pup we found,
A Whippador of vibrant brown, with love that knew no bound.
For nearly twelve sweet, precious years, you blessed our happy home,
And found a spot to curl with me, wherever I would roam.
A little diva now and then, but such a joyful sight,
You'd jump to catch your favorite treats, your spirit shining bright.
A gentle breath blown in your face would bring a funny smile,
You'd roll around, "a good girl" now, tail wagging all the while.
With Riley and with Jax you played, so patient and so sweet,
And now you're all together there, your faithful pack complete.
You leapt right through the patio screen to make your own pet door,
And nosed through reels upon our phones to watch the beasts explore.
When winter chilled the air you wore your sweaters with such charm,
Or snuggled close beside your Dad, who always kept you warm.
A daughter and two sons would wait to greet you every day,
Their mornings brightened by the love you'd always send their way.
You loved your walks, the "poopy park," the sunshine on your face,
Until the cancer took your strength, but never took your grace.
Your body tired and gave up the fight, your full life at its end,
But nothing takes away the love of such a faithful friend.
Sweet Lucy, brave and beautiful, our Whippador so true,
Our hearts are breaking once again, to say goodbye to you.
